Corrections

What happens when something we published turns out to be wrong.

In the piece

When a Journal article or an Influential Figures entry gets a fact wrong, the piece is corrected and a note is added to it. The note opens with the word Correction and the date, says what the earlier version said, and says what changed. It stays in the piece.

We do not quietly edit a page and pretend it never said what it said.

Dates

A correction does not change the date a piece was published. A corrected Journal article also gives search engines the date of its latest correction as the date it was last modified.

Pointing one out

Tell us through the contact form, choosing “A correction to something we published”. Point at the specific claim and, if you have one, the source that says otherwise.
